Open Skies
Sunday marks the beginning of Open Skies. It's an international agreement between the European Union and the United States that allows U.S. airlines to fly to any city in the EU. EU airlines can fly to any city in the United States. Read more about the politics of the agreement from Reuters. While the politics are interesting, it's the agreement's impact (or possible impact) on domestic air service that's worthy of more mention.
Let's begin with money. There's more of it for the airlines to make on transatlantic flights. As the agreement ramps up and U.S. airlines begin adjusting their fleets and networks, many industry analyst think domestic service will suffer. The thinking goes like this: since domestic service is so competitive, the airlines will shift resources to the less competitive overseas routes.
Gregory wants to know:
"Does this have any effect on SGF getting international charter flights? For example people from Great Britain coming to Branson for a few days."
I can't imagine how this would affect charters at all.
