MD-80 American Cancellations: Day 4
American expects 595 flight cancellations today as it continues its inspections of MD-80 jets. On its web site American says, "Customers who were scheduled on a flight that was canceled may request a full refund or apply the value of their ticket toward future travel on American Airlines. Additionally, customers scheduled to travel on any MD-80 flight April 8-13, even if their flight has not been canceled, may rebook without a change fee to any AA flight with availability in the same cabin as long as their travel begins by April 17."
American Woes Expected to Continue Thursday
Late this afternoon American Airlines said it expects to cancel more than 900 Thursday flights due to the on-going inspections of its MD-80 jets. Today's official cancellation count stands 1,094. If you're leaving Springfield tomorrow, expecting to catch an American connecting flight at Dallas/Ft. Worth or Chicago O'Hare, expect the worst.
The New York Times has the story covered.
Ouch! American Cancels More Than 800 Flights
These cancellations only affect flights on board MD-80 jets. And since Springfield-Branson doesn't have any MD-80 service, we are not directly affected. However, if you have a connecting American flight in Chicago or Dallas, there's a good chance that flight will be cancelled.
The cancellations began yesterday and could apparently continue through today and tomorrow. The Federal Aviation Administration ordered American to pull the MD-80s from service so questionable wiring could be inspected.

Axe Falls at Northwest Arkansas
The Northwest Arkansas airport is losing service to Miami and Raleigh, NC. American Airlines will end the routes in May and June. The Morning News quotes the airport director as saying the routes were losing money.
