MD-80 Inspections Spread to Other Airlines

Midwest Airlines and Alaska Airlines are now cancelling flights and inspecting their MD-80 jets. They join ranks with American Airlines, which is now in its third consecutive day of flight cancellations due to MD-80 inspections. In a press release this morning American says, "Customers who were scheduled on a flight that was cancelled may request a full refund or apply the value of their ticket toward future travel on American Airlines.  Additionally, customers scheduled to travel on any MD-80 flight April 8-11, even if their flight has not been cancelled, may rebook without a change fee to any AA flight with availability in the same cabin as long as their travel begins by April 17."

It's becoming painfully obvious that the effects of the cancellations will ripple into the weekend. If you're planning to fly anytime between now and Monday, you might want to consider changing your plans.
